Job summary

Siemens is seeking a Senior Controls Engineer with Siemens PLCs to lead design, programming, testing, and commissioning of automation systems for automotive customers in a hybrid role based in Vance, AL.

The ideal candidate will have 5+ years in industrial automation, strong SIMATIC PLC/HMI skills (STEP 7, TIA Portal, WinCC), and experience with conveyors and process equipment. Travel up to 50% is required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical/Automation Engineering or related field.
• 5+ years in industrial automation and controls engineering.
• Experience programming Siemens SIMATIC PLC and HMI platforms (STEP 7, TIA Portal, WinCC).
• Experience programming assembly systems (conveyors, process equipment).
• Knowledge of industrial safety systems (SICK PLS or equivalent).
• Experience with industrial drives and motion control (Siemens/SEW/Lenze).
• Knowledge of PROFINET networks.
• Proficient in English ( spoken and written ).
• Willing to travel up to 50% domestically and internationally.
• Legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.

Responsibilities

• Develop PLC and HMI software for Siemens automation systems (STEP 7, TIA Portal, WinCC).
• Integrate control software with electrical and mechanical systems used in automotive production equipment.
• Plan and execute commissioning of components and complete automation systems at customer sites.
• Program assembly systems, including conveyors and process equipment.
• Troubleshoot and optimize system performance for reliable operation.
• Integrate industrial safety systems, drives, motion-control equipment, and networks.
• Prepare detailed commissioning documentation, system records, and test reports.
• Participate in system acceptance testing and performance verification.
• Train customer personnel and complete the technical handover of commissioned systems.
• Support or lead on-site commissioning teams as required.
