Job summary

Contabo is seeking a Platform & Reliability Engineer to own and improve our shared infrastructure, including API gateways, storage, secrets infrastructure, edge security, and observability. You will shape on-call processes, improve runbooks, and drive reliability across multiple teams.

The role emphasizes deep systems expertise, end-to-end ownership, and collaboration in a remote-first setup with options for hybrid or on-site work in Germany.

Qualifications

• 7+ years in platform, infrastructure, or SRE roles with end-to-end responsibility for a private cloud or IaaS
• Hands-on production experience with distributed storage (Ceph) and Kubernetes persistent storage (Longhorn)
• Experience operating API gateways and ingress (Kong, Nginx Ingress) including debugging cross-cutting concerns like CORS and rate limiting
• Experience with CDN/edge security, DDoS mitigation, and WAF configuration (Cloudflare)
• Strong system design fundamentals (load balancing, caching, sharding, replication, consistency)
• Observability design with tracing, metrics, SLOs/SLIs using Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry
• Experience with secrets/identity infra (Vault, Keycloak) and building on-call processes/runbooks
• Ability to document knowledge and be the technical go-to across teams
• English fluency; German skills and related certifications are a plus

Responsibilities

• Design and establish an on-call process with runbooks for platform incidents
• Mature observability practices with distributed tracing and dashboards
• Provide architectural guidance across teams for shared infrastructure services
• Document knowledge and distribute critical know-how to prevent single points of failure
• Drive removal of risks and reduction of single points of failure across the platform
