Job description

Senior Platform Engineer, Workday Extend & Integrations

At Lyft, our purpose is to serve and connect. We aim to cultivate a work environment where all team members belong and have the opportunity to thrive.

As a Senior Workday Engineer at Lyft, you will be the technical cornerstone of the People Technology team, owning the design, development, and delivery of integrations, custom applications, and AI solutions that the entire People function depends on.

This role uniquely combines deep mastery across the full Workday technology stack with an AI-native engineering approach, enabling you to build solutions that don't just automate what exists today but fundamentally raise the bar for how People Technology delivers value.

You will partner closely with HR, Payroll, Finance, and Benefits stakeholders to translate complex requirements into scalable, maintainable solutions that truly move the needle.

With AI reshaping how People Technology teams operate, your expertise will be critical in actively identifying, building, and shipping AI-powered solutions that eliminate manual work, accelerate delivery, and push our teams from tactical execution to strategic impact. In this role, you will integrate LLMs into HR workflows, build and maintain MCP servers that expose people systems data securely to AI agents, mentor junior engineers, and set the engineering standard for a team redefining what enterprise People Technology looks like.

  • Identify and build AI-powered automations that reduce manual HR and People Ops workflows

  • Develop and maintain MCP (Model Context Protocol) servers that expose Workday and other people systems data and actions securely to AI agents

  • Develop Workday reports (Advanced, BIRT) and calculated fields to support complex business logic

  • Build and support integrations with benefits carriers and PECI integrations

  • Conduct design and code reviews, mentor junior engineers, and drive integration best practices

  • Document technical designs, data mappings, integration specifications, and runbooks

  • Manage work items and track progress using Jira; maintain thorough documentation in Confluence or equivalent systems

  • Stay current with Workday releases and evaluate new features for adoption

  • Serve as the technical owner for various People Technology systems, including Workday, Qualtrics, Docebo, Udemy, and Greenhouse, accountable for stability, configuration, integrations, and roadmap

  • Support the broader People Technology ecosystem by troubleshooting issues, managing vendor relationships, and partnering with HR stakeholders across all platforms

  • 2+ years of proven experience developing and shipping custom applications in Workday Extend, including custom business objects, fields, orchestration, and UI development

  • 2+ years of hands-on experience building Workday Prism pipelines, including source selection, transformation steps, and publishing datasets

  • Proven hands-on experience building AI-powered features, such as integrating LLMs into HR workflows and automating manual processes using AI agents that meaningfully reduce manual work and accelerate People Ops delivery

  • Deep proficiency in Workday Studio, including XSLT, XPath, document transforms, and complex multi-step orchestrations

  • Experience with REST/SOAP APIs and Workday Web Services (WWS)

  • Strong command of Workday reports and calculated fields needed for integrations and Extend
