Job summary

Intuit is hiring a Staff Engineer to lead the Traffic platform, owning API Gateway, Service Mesh, and MCP Gateway with a systems-wide view. You will guide the modernization of authentication and routing for AI agents and oversee migrations end-to-end, balancing backward compatibility and blast-radius containment.

The role requires deep Envoy/Istio experience, Go/Java systems programming, and a track record in incident response.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of software engineering experience in large-scale, low-latency distributed systems.
• Hands-on expertise with Envoy and/or Istio (or equivalent service mesh/API gateway) and modern architectures.
• Strong systems-level programming in Go and/or Java, with experience across hybrid-language platforms.
• Experience designing authentication/authorization for high-throughput traffic (OAuth, mTLS, token exchange).
• Leadership in incident response and root-cause analysis for P1-level issues.
• Experience with AWS networking and cost/performance trade-offs at scale.

Responsibilities

• Set architecture and engineering direction across API Gateway, Service Mesh, and MCP Gateway.
• Design and harden the MCP Gateway, including auth flows for AI agents and performance/security readiness.
• Lead AI-agent-enabled traffic operations, troubleshooting, and automated config impact analysis.
• Own major migrations end-to-end with backward compatibility and blast-radius containment.
• Apply resiliency practices (FMEA, Game Day, load shedding) to reduce incidents.
• Serve as escalation point during high-severity incidents and drive durable fixes.
• Mentor engineers and influence through design reviews and cross-team alignment.
• Contribute to FY roadmap planning with technical input on scope and risk trade-offs.
