Job summary

Humana is seeking a Senior Platform Engineer to keep the NBA platform healthy, reliable, and maintainable across Java/Drools, React/Node/Postgres, Node.js/Temporal, Kafka, and Databricks decisioning. You will diagnose issues, improve reliability and performance, and implement focused features where needed.

This hands-on role requires deep cross-domain understanding, strong debugging skills, and the ability to own long-term platform components while collaborating with delivery pods and Decision

Qualifications

• 5+ years of software engineering experience building and operating production systems.
• Ability to read, debug, and extend code in Java, Node.js/TypeScript, Python, and SQL.
• Strong understanding of distributed systems, APIs, event-driven patterns, and failure handling.
• Hands-on observability practices — logging, metrics, tracing, and alerting.
• Experience operating services on cloud infrastructure (Azure or equivalent) with containers/Kubernetes and CI/CD.
• Maintenance-minded focus on operational health and clean, well-documented code.
• Clear communicator who can explain systems or incidents to engineers and non-engineers alike.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and support services across the full platform; keep components current and integrated.
• Monitor platform health, investigate production issues, and resolve bottlenecks and scaling constraints.
• Design and ship features and improvements across platform components.
• Extend logging, metrics, tracing, and alerting for production visibility.
• Profile and tune components under load to scale reliably with growth.
• Write tests, participate in code reviews, and uphold engineering standards.
• Participate in on-call rotation and lead root-cause analysis to drive durable fixes.
• Collaborate with delivery pods and Decision Intelligence to own long-term components.
