Job summary

Magpie Literacy is seeking a Senior Full Stack Software Engineer to join a mission-driven Platform team. You will own end-to-end features, spanning backend services, frontend UI, and infrastructure, while delivering reliable, scalable software for teachers and students.

You will collaborate with product, design, and engineering, advancing architecture and production practices. Remote work is supported, with a strong ownership mindset and impact on reading outcomes.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of full-stack engineering experience with systems that scale.
• Hands-on AWS and cloud infrastructure experience, production deployment knowledge.
• Experience with Terraform or IaC and cloud concepts (IAM, compute, storage, service-to-service).
• Experience building for internal and external users, including auth/onboarding features.
• Experience writing automated tests (unit/integration/e2e).
• Led design or delivery of meaningful systems that improved outcomes.
• Startup or early-stage company experience with strong ownership.
• Pragmatic approach to tools and technologies with evaluative recommendations.

Responsibilities

• Design and build platform capabilities across frontend, backend, and infrastructure.
• Collaborate with product managers, designers, and engineers to add features and improve existing ones.
• Treat the platform as a product with KPI and OKR-driven decision making.
• Use data to inform decisions, measure impact, and drive improvements.
• Own features end-to-end from design to production, monitoring and support.
• Improve workflow and tooling to reduce friction from idea to production.
• Write clean, well-documented code and build robust APIs.
• Mentor engineers and contribute to team growth.
• Contribute to architectural decisions and technical standards.
• Stay updated on technologies and propose process improvements.
