Job summary

CreativeX, based in Portland, OR, is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to own reliability and performance of production systems in a hybrid, full-time capacity. You will lead critical database migrations, rearchitect systems, and scale data pipelines while building self-service tooling for engineers to deploy, test, and debug.

You will collaborate with security, product, and broader engineering to ensure secure, scalable, and observable platforms.

Qualifications

• Experience leading a database migration or significant architectural change on a live production system.
• Deep, hands-on experience with cloud data platforms in production, including performance tuning and query optimisation.
• Track record of scaling existing web applications and the infrastructure behind them, with strong observability, monitoring and alerting.
• Comfort reading and writing production code, ideally in Ruby on Rails.
• Day-to-day use of AI tools to build workflows and automation, not only as a search engine.
• Clear communication: explain technical trade-offs to engineers and non-engineers, and write documentation.
• Experience with a major cloud platform like AWS or DigitalOcean; infrastructure as code (Ansible); Datadog or similar monitoring.

Responsibilities

• Be the owner and go-to expert for the reliability and performance of production systems.
• Lead database migrations and rearchitecture projects across teams with minimal disruption to customers.
• Scale infrastructure and data processing pipelines to keep pace with data growth; build self-service tooling for deployment, testing and debugging.
• Maintain and improve staging and development environments, deployment automation and testing infrastructure.
• Improve observability across systems, using AI-assisted workflows to cut manual investigation.
• Respond to production incidents and lead post-incident reviews for lasting fixes.
• Collaborate with security, product and engineering teams to keep systems secure and scalable.
• Set and meet reliability and performance targets for the platform.
