As a Senior Plastics Engineer, you will be responsible for:

  1. Supporting plastics tooling expertise and owning polymer-related aspects from part design for manufacturing (DFM) to product launch.
  2. Consulting with design engineers and suppliers throughout product development, advising on process and tooling feasibility, DFM, efficiency, and cost.
  3. Evaluating flow studies and mold designs prior to tool approval and kick-off.
  4. Ensuring plastic tooling complies with Tool Standards.
  5. Maintaining thorough documentation of processes and designs.
  6. Supporting internal teams and representing the material team in communication with suppliers, including on-site visits.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in polymer engineering or a related field, or equivalent proven experience.
  • 5+ years of experience evaluating DFM and injection molding tool designs.
  • Excellent knowledge of injection tooling, including in-mold decoration, foaming, overmolding, back-injection, and vario-thermal processes.
  • Experience with DFM processes for automotive A-surface parts.
  • Experience with flow simulation software such as Autodesk MoldFlow.
  • Proven hands-on experience with plastic injection molding processes, including process optimization.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally up to 25% as needed.

Advantageous:

  • Experience in an automotive development environment, ideally through complete product development.
  • Hands-on experience with MoldFlow studies, first tool trials, and tool approvals.
  • Knowledge of tool should costing to understand cost impacts of design choices.
  • Experience with other plastic manufacturing processes and tooling, such as blow molding, thermal forming, vacuum forming, compression molding, and slush molding.

Salary Range: $105,000-$130,000

The actual salary offered depends on various factors including location, experience, and qualifications.
