Senior Plastics Engineer - Molding & Tooling Excellence (Commercial, Medical, Industrial)

Nelson Miller Group Global Plastics division, (formerly Injection Works), is a leading provider of precision injection molding solutions for commercial, medical, and industrial applications. We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior Plastics Engineer to join our dynamic team and contribute to our continued growth.

Role Overview:

As a Senior Plastics Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in driving the success of our injection molding projects from conception to completion. You will leverage your deep expertise in plastics, molding, and tooling to ensure projects meet stringent quality standards, timelines, and budgets. Your ability to collaborate effectively with clients, project managers, and production teams will be crucial to delivering exceptional results.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Project Leadership: Prepare, schedule, coordinate, and monitor assigned engineering projects, ensuring adherence to quality standards and timelines.
  • Client Collaboration: Act as a key point of contact for clients, interpreting their needs, providing technical expertise, and representing their interests throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Technical Expertise: Develop and optimize tooling designs, analyze molding processes, and troubleshoot complex technical challenges.
  • Quality Assurance: Monitor compliance with applicable practices, QA policies, performance standards, and specifications.
  • Documentation & Reporting: Create detailed drawings, project specifications, technical reports, and progress updates.
  • Process Improvement: Identify and implement improvements to manufacturing methods, focusing on safety, quality, and efficiency, in collaboration with the Production Manager.
  • Financial Management: Prepare estimates, budgets, and RFQs/part quotes.
  • Software Proficiency: Utilize SolidWorks, IQMS, SharePoint, and Office applications effectively.
  • Continuous Improvement: Participate in continuous improvement and corrective action initiatives.
  • Communication & Collaboration: Effectively communicate with project teams, clients, and stakeholders, and provide technical support as needed.
  • Engineering Experimentation: Design and execute engineering experiments to optimize processes and product designs.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Plastics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field preferred. Equivalent experience will be considered.
  • Minimum of 5+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment specializing in injection molding, tooling, and plastics.
  • Proven track record of successfully managing complex engineering projects.
  • Strong working knowledge of injection molding processes, tooling design, and material selection.
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks, IQMS, SharePoint, and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications.
  • Knowledge of ASQ certification is a plus.
  • Strong understanding of RFQ and part quoting processes.

Physical Demands & Work Environment:

  • Standard manufacturing environment with moderate noise levels.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs occasionally.
