Job summary

Matrix PDM Engineering, located in Pittsburgh, PA, is seeking a Sr. Designer/Checker, Piping. The role focuses on creating and verifying piping layouts and final drawings, while leading the discipline design team as DDL and potentially PDL on projects.

The position requires strong piping design know-how, CADWorx/PDMS/AVEVA expertise, and the ability to coordinate with internal and external designers to ensure safety, quality and schedule adherence.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field with piping focus preferred.
• 4+ years of piping design and layout experience; 2+ years at Matrix preferred.
• Proficient in advanced 3D CAD systems (CADWorx/PDMS/AVEVA); AVEVA experience highly preferred.
• Strong understanding of piping, mechanical, and drafting disciplines.
• Familiarity with APIs, ANSI, ASME codes and standards for piping design.
• Overtime and travel may be required.

Responsibilities

• Lead Discipline Design Lead (DDL) and may serve as Project Design Lead (PDL) for multiple disciplines.
• Produce and check piping layouts and drawings for accuracy and constructability.
• Coordinate with team members and external designers/drafters to meet scope, budget and schedule.
• Review P&IDs, vendor drawings, and piping details for accuracy and safety.
• Assist in defining project scope and man-hour estimates; manage project communications.
