Job summary

Day & Zimmermann is seeking a Senior Piping Designer within the D&Z MC - Engineering division to lead complex piping design projects. The role involves creating detailed pipe layouts and isometrics, coordinating with engineering teams, and ensuring compliance with codes and internal standards.

You will supervise CAD output, manage schedules, perform calculations, and contribute to design improvements while upholding safety and quality.

Qualifications

• Possession of a high school diploma or GED, complemented by a technical background relevant to mechanical and piping design disciplines.
• Associate’s Degree (AA) in Engineering Technology, Mechanical Drafting, or a closely related technical field
• Extensive hands‑on experience ranging from 15 to 20 years or more in piping design and drafting roles, demonstrating expert proficiency and comprehensive project exposure.
• Proven mastery of modern 2D and 3D CAD software essential for producing detailed piping layouts and fabrication drawings aligned with current industry standards.
• A strong safety orientation and strict adherence to quality control processes, regulations, and engineering protocols.
• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in interdisciplinary teams with excellent communication and problem‑solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead piping design and drafting activities, ensuring CAD output meets project specifications, technical accuracy, and is delivered on schedule.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with engineers, project managers, fabricators, and clients to confirm design requirements, address engineering challenges, and implement effective piping system solutions.
• Apply and enforce compliance with relevant industry codes, standards, company procedures, and safety regulations for all piping design efforts.
• Develop, monitor, and adjust project-specific schedules to ensure timely completion of deliverables across multiple smaller projects or segments within larger projects.
• Prepare and critically review detailed process piping layouts, isometric drawings, and supporting documentation to verify constructability, accuracy, and design integrity.
• Utilize advanced CAD software including both 2D drafting and 3D modeling tools to generate adaptable and precise piping designs suitable for fabrication and installation.
• Perform engineering calculations and simulations to validate design parameters, support decision-making, and optimize system performance.
• Maintain comprehensive records of design revisions, technical correspondence, and project documentation to ensure traceability and promote knowledge sharing within the team.
• Take an active role in project review sessions and technical workshops, offering expert guidance, identifying areas for improvement, and participating in problem‑solving discussions.
