Job summary

Quest Diagnostics in Saint Paul, MN is seeking a Sr. Phlebotomy Technician to support daily department operations. Mon-Fri, 6:30 AM–8:30 PM with rotational weekends; performs venous and capillary blood collection and POC testing as needed.

The role includes scheduling, workload distribution, and ensuring efficient, compliant patient care while providing onboarding support and ensuring supply readiness.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 3 years of progressive, accomplished experience in POC and phlebotomy preferred.
• Medical training: medical assistant or paramedic training preferred.
• Phlebotomy certification preferred. Required in California, Nevada, and Washington.

Responsibilities

• Prepares staff schedule to provide adequate coverage and updates changes daily.
• Ensures equitable distribution of workload.
• Troubleshoots and resolves issues with technicians, clinic staff etc. as needed in conjunction with the Supervisor.
• Monitors to ensure work is being performed efficiently.
• Establishes in conjunction with the Supervisor an onboarding program for new employees.
• Performs phlebotomy and POC testing as needed.
• Maintains drawing and POC testing carts/trays with necessary supplies.
• Maintains all necessary supplies and places orders in a timely fashion. Displays need for cost-effectiveness in the use of supplies and materials.
• Sorts timed specimen requisitions and distribute them according to unit assignments as necessary
• Obtain specimens, requisitions, draw blood or perform POC tests as needed.
• Identifies the needs of the patient population served and modifies and delivers care that is specific to those needs (i.e., age, culture, language, hearing and/or visually impaired, etc.). This process includes communicating with the patient, parent, and/or primary caregiver(s) at their level (developmental/age, educational, literacy, etc.).
• Adheres to the standards identified in the clinic’s Organizational Competencies.
