Job summary

Subway is seeking a Sr. Performance Engineer to lead the enterprise Performance Engineering function across web, mobile, kiosk, POS, loyalty, and payments. You will work with Site Reliability, Observability, DevOps, and Architecture to improve reliability and validate resilience through controlled chaos experiments.

You will embed performance validation into CI/CD, define readiness criteria, and deliver executive-level reporting. Strong scripting in Java/Python and cloud experience are required.

Qualifications

• 5–7+ years in performance engineering at enterprise scale.
• Experience with performance validation in CI/CD and chaos testing.
• Strong scripting in Java, JavaScript, or Python; cloud experience (AWS/Azure).

Responsibilities

• Own enterprise Performance Engineering as a horizontal shared service across product and engineering teams.
• Design and run load, stress, endurance, and scalability tests with clear KPIs.
• Identify bottlenecks across app, DB, messaging, and infra using observability data.
• Automate performance validation in CI/CD and standardize reporting.
• Partner with SRE/DevOps to set reliability targets and run chaos experiments.
• Define readiness criteria and provide go/no-go for releases with executive reporting.
• Incorporate AI-assisted workflows and maintain AI artifacts for guardrails.
