Job summary

Symbotic, an AI-powered robotics and software platform leader, is seeking a Principal Software Engineer in Austin, TX. The role centers on real-time perception software for automated forklift and loading dock automation, with opportunities to influence controls, architecture, CI/CD, and customer KPI ownership.

The ideal candidate has a Master’s degree and 10+ years in complex real-time systems, with a track record of production-ready robotics.

Qualifications

Master's degree in a related discipline is required.
Minimum 10 years of professional experience developing software for complex, real-time systems.
Deep expertise in robotics perception: SLAM, sensor fusion, state estimation, computer vision.
Proven track record taking complex robotic systems into production with measurable value.
Experience mentoring or growing other engineers.
Comfort operating with a broader technical scope beyond Perception (Controls, system architecture, CI/CD, planning).

Responsibilities

Design and develop real-time, high-performance perception software for autonomous forklift and loading dock systems.
Serve as a leading technical contributor within the Perception organization.
Mentor and grow other engineers to scale this work.
Analyze root causes and apply systems-thinking to performance improvements.
Drive project scoping and requirement specifications for long-term roadmaps.
Engage with customer program stakeholders on scope and KPIs.
Collaborate across teams on CI/CD and architecture as needed.
