Job summary

Hippo in Austin, TX is seeking an experienced People Business Partner to lead HR initiatives across product, underwriting, and operations. You’ll diagnose org health, manage employee relations, and translate complex business problems into effective people solutions.

You will partner with leadership to drive talent planning, performance, and culture, while ensuring confidentiality and compliance in a fast-paced, regulated environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field.
• 5+ years of progressive HR Business Partner experience with demonstrated depth in employee relations and performance management.
• Experience supporting technical, product, or business‑development‑oriented organizations preferred—comfort translating technical priorities into people strategy.
• Strong analytical capability; able to interpret workforce data, identify trends, and translate findings into clear recommendations.
• Demonstrated ability to manage ER matters independently and in a risk‑aware, legally sound manner from intake through resolution.
• Exceptional judgment, confidentiality, and the ability to build trust quickly with managers and leaders at all levels.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills; able to advise with clarity and hold a position under pressure.
• Insurance, financial services, banking, or similarly regulated industry experience preferred; familiarity with underwriting, actuarial, or program management functions a plus.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the primary People Business Partner to assigned stakeholders across Hippo's business lines and/or core functions.
• Translate complex business priorities into people recommendations; anticipate people risks and present a clear leadership viewpoint.
• Coach managers on performance management, difficult conversations, and team development.
• Partner with L&D to strengthen leadership effectiveness and close capability gaps.
• Drive culture and engagement; track progress and surface measurable outcomes.
• Execute ER case management from intake to resolution with disciplined documentation.
• Advise on policy interpretation, conduct matters, and performance actions with legal compliance.
• Collaborate with People Ops, Talent Acquisition, People Programs, and Total Rewards on integrated people programs.
