Job summary

NYC Department of Social Services is seeking a Supervising Special Officer to protect staff, clients and facilities across NYC. The role includes supervising officers, coordinating security operations, and responding to emergencies.

The position requires a High School diploma or equivalent and NYS Peace Officer qualifications, with a focus on maintaining safety and enforcing security protocols citywide.

Qualifications

• A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent approved by a state's department of education.
• One year of full-time satisfactory experience in law enforcement, protection or security.
• Candidates must be qualified to serve as Peace Officers and meet NYS Peace Officer training requirements.

Responsibilities

• Direct and supervise the physical safety of staff and customers at HRA locations.
• Supervise Special Officers including training, counseling and performance assessments.
• Conduct roll calls and inspect posts and assigned work areas.
• Facilitate arrests and assist in the arrest process; may appear in court.
• Ensure highest level of security; prepare schedules and train guards.
• Respond to emergencies; cooperate with other law enforcement agencies.
• Oversee and monitor guards and evaluate their performance.
• Investigate security incidents and prepare reports with corrective actions.
• Assigned to HRA locations across NYC five boroughs; other duties as needed.
