Job summary

The Scripps Research Institute is seeking a Payroll Supervisor to lead the payroll team and manage the daily operations of payroll for all employees, including scholarship recipients with stipends. The role requires ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations and maintaining data integrity.

You will oversee payroll processing, collaborate with HR and Finance, and implement best practices in payroll processing.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of progressive payroll experience with at least 3 years in a supervisory role.
• Proficiency with payroll software (Workday, UKG) and Excel.
• Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) designation preferred.
• Familiarity with multi-state and international payroll practices.

Responsibilities

• Supervise payroll team; provide guidance, training, and performance feedback.
• Oversee payroll processing for all employees; ensure accuracy and timeliness.
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll laws and tax filings.
• Review payroll data; verify timekeeping, salary adjustments, and deductions.
• Maintain accurate payroll records and data integrity; audit payroll transactions.
• Collaborate with HR and Finance to resolve payroll-related issues.
• Prepare payroll reports for management as needed.
• Stay updated on payroll regulations and best practices; improve processes.
• Oversee payroll for foreign nationals; manage tax compliance and documentation.
