Job summary

The Scripps Research Translational Institute in La Jolla, CA is seeking a Payroll Supervisor to oversee daily payroll operations for salary, hourly staff and stipend recipients. You will lead a payroll team, ensure timely processing, and maintain data integrity across systems.

Responsibilities include ensuring compliance with federal and state tax laws, performing audits, and coordinating with HR and Finance. Knowledge of Workday or UKG and advanced Excel skills are required; CPP is preferred.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of progressive payroll experience, with at least 3 years in a supervisory role.
• Strong knowledge of payroll laws, regulations, and best practices.
• Advanced proficiency in payroll software (Workday, UKG) and Excel.
• CPP designation preferred; multi-state and international payroll experience a plus.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and manage the payroll team, providing guidance, training, and performance feedback.
• Oversee the processing of payroll for all employees, including scholarship recipients with stipends.
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, local payroll laws and tax filings.
• Review payroll data, timekeeping, benefits deductions, and adjustments for accuracy.
• Collaborate with HR and Finance to resolve payroll issues and respond to inquiries.
