Job summary

UIC Arctic Operations & Development seeks a Payroll Supervisor to oversee payroll operations across entities, ensuring accurate, timely processing and strict compliance with policies and laws. The role provides leadership to payroll staff and serves as the primary resource for systems, controls, and reporting.

The position requires 5+ years of payroll leadership experience, familiarity with multi-state payroll, and strong knowledge of payroll taxes, reconciliations, and internal controls.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of progressive payroll experience including leadership.
• Experience in multi-entity and multi-state payroll environments.
• Strong knowledge of payroll processing, taxation, compliance, and reconciliations.
• Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
• Experience with SCA, DBA, prevailing wage, and/or Union payroll.

Responsibilities

• Oversee end-to-end payroll across all companies, employee groups, and pay cycles.
• Ensure payroll is processed accurately and timely per policies and schedules.
• Supervise, train, and direct payroll staff; set priorities and review accuracy.
• Review and approve payroll including wages, overtime, leave, bonuses, deductions, and reimbursements.
• Oversee timekeeping data accuracy and resolve issues.
• Ensure compliance with wage and hour laws, payroll taxes, and record retention.
• Coordinate with Accounting to record payroll expenses and liabilities.
