Job summary

UL Research Institutes and UL Standards & Engagement are seeking a Senior Payroll Manager to oversee U.S. payroll operations, taxes, time and attendance, and related systems from our Evanston, IL office.

You will manage in-house payroll, ensure compliance with federal, state, and local laws, and drive efficiency across payroll processes. The role collaborates with finance and benefits teams, leads a payroll team, and supports audits and annual reporting.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in human resources, accounting, finance or related discipline.
• Minimum 8 years of progressive payroll experience, including at least 3 years leading payroll operations and team members.
• Experience processing payroll in multi-jurisdictional environments is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Lead all aspects of in-house U.S. payroll processing in accordance with federal, state, and local legislation, corporate policies, and industry best practices, ensuring accurate and timely paychecks.
• Manage HRIS and employee data relating to payroll including earnings codes, tax locations, wage attachments, garnishments, deductions, and time and attendance to ensure accuracy of payroll records.
• Oversee payroll-related government reports and tax filings in compliance with federal, state, local tax codes, including Form 5500 and related reporting.
