Job summary

Superior Electrical, Mechanical & Plumbing, Inc. is seeking an experienced Payroll Manager to lead weekly multi-state payroll processing and ensure compliance with applicable laws and company policies. This hands-on role requires strong leadership and a track record of accuracy.

The ideal candidate brings 5+ years of payroll experience, 2+ years in leadership, and proficiency with Paylocity and HRIS/timekeeping systems. CPP certification is preferred.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of progressive payroll experience in multi-state environments.
• 2+ years in payroll leadership or management roles.
• Strong knowledge of federal and multi-state payroll laws (CA, NV, HI, TX, CO, AZ, NM).
• Ability to manage payroll processes independently and meet deadlines.
• Analytical, detail-oriented with good judgment and problem-solving.
• Excellent written and verbal communication across organization levels.

Responsibilities

• Lead preparation and processing of weekly payroll across multiple states.
• Review timecards, earnings, deductions, and payroll changes for accuracy.
• Process regular and overtime wages, bonuses, retroactive pay, PTO, garnishments, and other adjustments.
• Review payroll registers and audit reports to correct discrepancies before submission.
• Manage off-cycle payrolls, manual checks, and corrections as needed.
• Provide payroll support during high-volume periods and absences.
• Maintain confidential payroll records per policy and legal requirements.
• Support audits, reconciliations, reporting, and year-end activities.
• Guide and mentor payroll staff to ensure consistent procedures.
