Confidential Employer in Fargo, ND seeks a senior payroll leader to own end-to-end payroll operations, lead a skilled team, and ensure accurate, compliant delivery across multiple entities and jurisdictions.

You will partner with clients and internal teams, drive process improvements, and stay current on payroll laws. 4+ years of progressive payroll experience, leadership, and multistate expertise are required.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of progressive payroll experience, including management or team leadership.
• Experience with multistate payroll, taxes, compliance, and complex deductions.
• Experience with payroll systems and related accounting or HR technology.
• Strong Excel, analytical, organizational, communication, and problem solving skills.
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field.
• CPP, CPA, or related professional certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead end to end payroll operations and ensure accurate, timely, and compliant payroll delivery.
• Manage, mentor, and develop payroll team members while setting clear performance and service standards.
• Oversee payroll processing across multiple entities, states, and regulatory jurisdictions.
• Review payroll runs, validate data, and resolve complex payroll issues involving taxes, garnishments, deductions, and adjustments.
• Maintain strong payroll controls, documentation, reporting, and system administration.
• Partner directly with clients and internal teams to provide knowledgeable payroll guidance and resolve issues.
• Identify opportunities to streamline workflows, strengthen controls, and improve payroll technology and processes.
• Stay current on payroll laws, tax requirements, and regulatory changes affecting payroll operations.
