Job summary

Ceribell, a medical technology company delivering rapid seizure detection, seeks a Payroll Manager in Sunnyvale, CA to own end-to-end payroll operations and SOX controls. You’ll partner with HR, Finance, and Legal, overseeing equity compensation, commissions, and multi-state payrolls while ensuring strict compliance and policy adherence.

Qualifications

• 7+ years payroll experience with at least 3 years in a supervisory role.
• Strong knowledge of California and multi-state payroll laws.
• Familiarity with SOX requirements and public-company audits.
• Experience with equity compensation and commissions.
• Proficient in payroll systems (Paylocity, ADP) and equity platforms (Fidelity).
• Experience with Netsuite and advanced Excel for analytics.
• Excellent leadership, organizational, and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Manage all payroll functions for U.S. employees, including semi-monthly and special payrolls.
• Oversee equity-related payroll processing with cross-functional teams.
• Approve commission payrolls aligned with plan documents.
• Assist with Travel & Expense process and policy compliance.
• Prepare payroll journal entries, accruals, and reconciliations.
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll laws.
• Maintain internal controls and SOX compliance.
• Manage payroll system configurations and liaise with HRIS/IT.
• Develop and maintain payroll policies and procedures.
• Lead payroll staff and conduct performance reviews.
• Collaborate on payroll-related projects with HR, Finance, Legal.
