Job summary

Subsurface Energy Resources, LLC in California seeks a Payroll Manager to own the payroll control and audit function, ensuring every employee is paid accurately, on time, and in full compliance with federal, state, and local wage-and-hour laws.

You will lead data-entry review, post-payroll reconciliations, year-end filings, and ERP integration, supervise payroll staff, and partner with HR, Legal, and site leadership to strengthen internal controls.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field; progressive experience acceptable.
• 5+ years of progressive payroll experience across multiple entities/states; supervisory experience required.
• Experience with JD Edwards (JDE) or similar ERP for payroll-to-GL integration.
• CPP designation preferred.
• Advanced knowledge of federal and multi-state wage-and-hour, tax, and payroll compliance.

Responsibilities

• Audit payroll data and approve changes before each payroll run.
• Audit and reconcile payroll journal entries to GL.
• Configure payroll software security roles and approval workflows.
• Manage quarter-end and year-end tax filings (941s, W-2) and related filings.
• Lead or support internal and external payroll audits and compliance questions.
