Job summary

Trout CPA is seeking an experienced Payroll Manager to lead our payroll services team within Client Accounting Services. This role will oversee multi-client and multi-state payroll processing, strengthen compliance, develop team members, and serve as a trusted payroll advisor to clients across a variety of industries.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in a related field.
• 10+ years of payroll experience, preferably multi-client or CPA firm environment.
• CPP certification required.
• Expert knowledge of payroll platforms (Gusto, ADP, Paylocity, Evolution).
• Advanced Excel skills; experience with payroll tax reporting, HRIS and timekeeping integrations.

Responsibilities

• Lead accurate, timely payroll processing for multiple clients.
• Oversee multi-state payroll, tax filings, wage and hour compliance, audits, and tax notices.
• Advise clients on payroll policies, regulations, systems, and customized solutions.
• Manage payroll software implementations and integrations with HRIS and timekeeping systems.
• Identify opportunities to improve payroll processes, accuracy, and efficiency.
• Lead, mentor, and develop a team of payroll professionals.
• Create procedures, best practices, and training for payroll systems and compliance updates.
