Job summary

OpenGov seeks a Senior Manager, Payroll to own US payroll end-to-end, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and compliance across jurisdictions. You will set long-term direction for payroll operations, document processes, strengthen controls, and drive automation to scale as the business grows.

You will supervise the lead payroll specialist and partner with Finance, HR, ERP & Engineering, and Legal. This in-office role is based in Atlanta, with other city options including San Francisco, Chicago,

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field or equivalent experience
• 8+ years of US payroll experience, including 3+ years managing payroll staff
• Hands-on experience with Workday Payroll and ADP SmartCompliance
• Exceptional attention to detail and ability to deliver accurate payroll on tight deadlines
• Cross-functional collaboration with HR, Finance, and Legal
• Experience with equity compensation (RSU) payroll tax and reporting

Responsibilities

• Own end-to-end payroll processing for the United States, ensuring accuracy and compliance
• Manage payroll tax compliance across jurisdictions and drive audits to completion
• Collaborate with HR on 401(k), HSA, and FSA contributions and deductions
• Provide tax information and withholding calculations for RSU settlements
• Manage quarterly and year-end employment tax reporting (W-2, 1099, Form 940/941)
• Own payroll general ledger reconciliations and month-end close
• Design and maintain payroll controls and ensure readiness for audits
• Improve processes and automation to scale payroll
• Supervise and develop the lead payroll specialist
