Job summary

Jobtailor in Oregon is seeking a Senior Payroll Leader to lead, coach, develop, and manage a payroll team across multi-state operations. You will own end-to-end payroll processing, ensure timely bi-weekly payrolls, and maintain timekeeping accuracy.

The role requires strong knowledge of federal, state, and local payroll regulations, payroll tax calculations, and internal controls. You will partner with HR and finance to optimize systems and reporting while guiding year-end activities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or higher preferred in a related field.
• 6+ years of progressive payroll leadership experience.
• Experience establishing payroll tax accounts and registering in new jurisdictions.
• Proven expertise with payroll processing workflows and integrations.
• Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local payroll regulations and wage-hour compliance.
• Advanced Excel for data analysis, reporting, and reconciliation.

Responsibilities

• Lead, coach, develop, and manage payroll team members.
• Oversee all U.S. payroll operations and end-to-end payroll function.
• Ensure accurate and timely processing of bi-weekly payrolls across populations and locations.
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll regulations and company policies.
• Serve as SME and primary escalation point for payroll matters.
• Review and approve payroll activities, calculations, reconciliations, and reporting.
• Manage payroll tax calculation, reporting, and remittance activities.
• Establish internal controls for data integrity and audit compliance.
• Partner with HR, Operations, and management on timekeeping records and inputs.
• Oversee payroll accounting, reconciliations, GL interfaces, accruals, and reporting.
• Administer PTO programs, accruals, and liability reporting.
• Analyze payroll processes and systems to improve efficiency and controls.
• Manage year-end payroll activities, including W-2s and audits.
• Support payroll system implementations, upgrades, testing, and optimizations.
