Baker Tilly is seeking a Senior Payroll Consultant within our Human Resources & Payroll Consulting team. You will support client engagements focused on payroll operations, compliance, and process improvement.

You’ll work with experienced colleagues to deliver high-quality solutions and help clients navigate complex payroll challenges. This role is mostly remote, but candidates should be within 50 miles of Baker Tilly offices in Texas, Wisconsin, or Pennsylvania to participate in on-site

Qualifications

• 3 years of payroll experience, ideally in a consulting firm, payroll provider, or in-house payroll function.
• Bachelor's degree preferred or considered in lieu of degree.
• Strong understanding of payroll processes, compliance and multistate regulations.
• Experience with payroll tax forms and filings.
• Familiarity with payroll systems such as ADP, Workday, SAP, Oracle/PeopleSoft, Paycom, Paycor, or similar.
• CPP certification strongly preferred (or in progress).

Responsibilities

• Support payroll consulting engagements across a range of clients, industries, and geographies.
• Assess and improve client payroll processes, controls, and procedures.
• Perform multistate payroll compliance reviews (federal, state, local).
• Support payroll tax activities, including forms like 941, 941-X, W-2C.
• Assist with payroll setup and configuration (earnings, deductions, tax treatments).
• Analyze payroll data to identify discrepancies, risks and opportunities for improvement.
• Assist with employee classification, wage treatment, and overtime calculations.
• Collaborate with internal teams and clients to ensure timely, high-quality work.
• Communicate payroll concepts clearly to technical and non-technical audiences.
• Contribute to project deliverables and stay aligned with client expectations.
