Job summary

Airbnb is seeking a Senior Software Engineer for the Payments Risk Engineering team. You will design and build scalable risk services for a global payments platform, working closely with data science, product, design and ops to detect and mitigate fraud while ensuring reliability.

This is a US-remote eligible role supporting a world-class payments experience for hosts and guests. You will contribute to APIs, data pipelines and real-time risk systems, advancing observability and testing quality

Qualifications

• 5+ years in payments/fintech as backend engineer.
• Proficient in Java/Kotlin/Python; React experience a plus.
• Understanding of large-scale web APIs and data pipelines.
• Strong testing, code quality and engineering practices.
• Team collaboration across product, data science and ops.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain a scalable risk platform and services.
• Collaborate with data scientists, product, design and operations.
• Integrate with payment networks and processors for risk systems.
• Refine risk detection, mitigation and resolution strategies.
• Improve monitoring and observability of risk systems.
• Contribute to engineering process and foundation across Airbnb.
