Job summary

Allegheny Health Network seeks a Patient Care Aide to provide direct patient care and assist the registered nurse in caring for patients in stable condition. You will help with admissions, discharges and transfers, and support unit activities while documenting care in the electronic medical record.

You will work under RN supervision for stable patients and under RN supervision for acutely ill or complex patients, following hospital policies and safety protocols.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Experience as a PCA, PCT, NA, LPN, EMT, Military hospital corpsman, combat medic, or 4N0X1 preferred.
• 1 year in an acute or long-term care facility or enrollment in an RN program (2nd/3rd year) required.
• Basic computer skills required.
• Proficient in IV insertion, phlebotomy, straight catheterization, and basic cardiac dysrhythmia training or completion of a relevant course on hire.

Responsibilities

• Provides, obtains or performs and documents direct patient care and activities (e.g., ADLs, vital signs, specimen collection, EKG, I&O, etc.).
• Assists with coordination of inpatient unit activities including admissions, discharges, and transfers (50%).
• Participates in quality and patient satisfaction initiatives and safe patient handling practices (20%).
• Accurately documents vital signs, I&O, medications, and treatments; reports changes to nursing staff (15%).
• Performs unit support tasks such as supply stocking and equipment cleaning (15%).
• Performs other duties as assigned.
