Qualifications

• Seven (7) years of relevant experience or a Bachelor's degree in a related field plus three (3) years of experience.
• Strong knowledge of billing and / or collections processes, concepts, systems and external regulations. Knowledge of medical terminology and coding.
• Strong interpersonal and customer service skills to work effectively with all parties to the billing and collection process, and to negotiate terms for resolution of outstanding accounts.
• Strong computer proficiency with spreadsheet and accounting software, and experience with EHR systems.
• Strong organizational skills to handle high-volume, complex operations.
• Knowledge of confidentiality issues in revenue cycle including HIPAA and FERPA.
• Strong analytical skills to produce reports and identify trends.
• Ability to provide recommendations on billing functionality and operations.
• Commitment to inclusivity and professionalism within UC San Diego community.

Responsibilities

• Handle insurance claims processing and patient billing within a high-volume environment.
• Investigate and resolve complex claims and payment discrepancies.
• Process transactions for billing to insurance plans and students; reconcile charges and payments.
• Assist with special insurance and revenue cycle projects and data analysis.
• Maintain compliance with HIPAA, FERPA, and university policies.
