Job summary

AbbVie seeks an experienced Associate General Counsel for the Patent Prosecution group to develop and implement intellectual property strategies for AbbVie's products and candidates, focusing on neuroscience.

You will draft, file, and prosecute patent applications worldwide, manage outside counsel, and defend patents in post-grant proceedings while collaborating with R&D and business teams across multiple sites in the U.S.

Qualifications

• JD degree from an accredited law school required.
• Bar admission enabling in-house practice (state not required).
• 8+ years of experience practicing patent law as an attorney or patent agent, including US and foreign prosecution.
• Experience with India, China, and emerging markets is a plus.
• Technical background relevant to pharmaceutical patent prosecution (e.g., small molecules/biologics) or degree in a relevant field.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement intellectual property strategies to maximize AbbVie's competitive position.
• Provide legal advice to cross-functional R&D and business teams on IP matters.
• Draft, file, and prosecute patent applications worldwide, including management of outside counsel.
• Challenge and defend patents in post-grant proceedings and related actions.
• Conduct prior art searches and due diligence to support business development.
