Job summary

AbbVie is seeking an in-house Associate General Counsel for our Patent Prosecution group, supporting AbbVie's pharmaceutical products with a focus on neuroscience. The role is based in North Chicago, IL, Waltham, MA, South San Francisco, CA, or Irvine, CA with a hybrid work model (on site 3+ days/week).

You will develop IP strategies, draft and prosecute patent applications, manage outside counsel, and collaborate with R&D and business teams on IP matters, including post-grant proceedings and

Qualifications

• JD degree from an accredited law school.
• 8+ years of patent law experience in a law firm or life sciences company.
• Experience with India, China, and emerging markets is a plus.
• Technical background relevant to pharmaceutical patent prosecution (molecules/biologics) preferred.

Responsibilities

• Maximize AbbVie's IP position through strategic IP planning and filing.
• Provide legal counsel to cross-functional R&D and business teams on IP matters.
• Draft, file, and prosecute patent applications worldwide.
• Challenge and defend patents in post-grant and opposition proceedings.
• Conduct prior art searches and due diligence to support business development.
