Job Summary

Packaging Engineers work closely with process, controls, and building system engineers to scope, layout, install, and commission packaging equipment lines for food and beverage industry clients. Dennis Group is a design-build engineering firm and general contractor specializing in food and beverage processing facilities. Responsibilities include defining project requirements, estimating costs, creating flow diagrams, onsite support, and start-up and commissioning of packaging equipment.

Responsibilities

1. Design:
   • Create basis of design and scope of work documents
   • Develop design concepts and functional specifications
   • Work with sanitary design concepts for various products
   • Create AutoCAD layouts
   • Review vendor shop drawings
2. Engineering:
   • Be a subject matter expert in packaging area
   • Manage multiple projects
   • Create flow diagrams, material balance, specifications, and schedules
   • Develop project budgets and procurement documents
   • Design systems including conveyance, wrapping, filling, case packing, and palletizing
   • Assist in process simulation and machine testing
3. Site Work:
   • Survey existing conditions
   • Coordinate onsite construction and manage installation and commissioning
   • Lead vendor and installation teams
   • Lead client meetings and factory acceptance testing
   • Lead and mentor team members
4. Must have led a project with components such as conveyance, wrapping, bagging, cartoning, filling, bottling, or palletizing.
5. Commit to ongoing research of packaging engineering best practices.

Required Education, Skills, and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, packaging, industrial, or manufacturing engineering
• 8-11 years of relevant work experience, including large project management
• Experience in food and beverage manufacturing or design firms
• Proficiency with MS Office, MS Project, AutoCAD
• Excellent communication skills
• Team-oriented attitude, problem-solving, organizational, and time management skills
• Travel requirement: 30-50% for site visits and project management

Physical and Travel Requirements

• Prolonged sitting and working on a computer
• Ability to lift up to 15 pounds
• Travel up to 50% to project sites and offices
