Job description

Senior Packaging Engineer (Smith & Nephew, Inc., Mansfield, MA)

Responsible for ensuring packaging designs are functional, efficient, and meet the needs of the customer. Design and develop sterile and non-sterile packaging systems for new product development and existing product lines under limited supervision. Coordinate and monitor packaging projects and programs from inception through implementation. Establish appropriate project schedules and prepare project reports periodically to outline progress. Define packaging-related design inputs and requirements through voice of customers such as consultations with surgeons, nurses, or other operating room/hospital personnel. Provide technical packaging support and leadership to multi-functional teams, and lower-level packaging engineers.

Employment details: Full-time, Monday – Friday, 40 hours per week.

Minimum Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in Packaging Engineering, Packaging Science, or related field plus 4 years of post-baccalaureate experience in the Medical Device or Biotechnology industry. Alternatively, a Master’s degree plus 2 years of relevant experience.
• Experience in ISTA or ASTM Package Testing Methods for 3 years with a bachelor's or 2 years with a master's degree.
• At least 2 years of experience in each of the following: TOPS Software, Thermoforming Design, Packaging Design Verification Testing, Process Validation (IQ, QQ, PQ).
• At least 1 year of experience in each of the following: Ethylene Oxide or Gamma sterilization, Design Validation of Packaging Systems, SolidWorks.

Up to 20% telecommuting permitted within MA state. Willing to travel up to 10% (domestic and international) to supplier sites, conferences, and manufacturing facilities.
