Qualifications

Position Overview

This role reports to the Packaging Engineering group within the Combination Product Operations (CPO) at Amgen Ohio. It involves supporting global supply, new product launches, partnerships, and combination products. The engineer will apply physics, engineering, chemistry, and materials science principles to evaluate, design, qualify, and implement packaging components and systems, ensuring compliance with cGMP and regulatory standards. The role includes project planning, technical support, and potential entry-level management responsibilities, requiring excellent organizational, project management, and communication skills.

Responsibilities
  1. Manage projects involving entry-level engineers and contingent workers.
  2. Evaluate and select new secondary packaging materials for pharmaceutical products.
  3. Assess complex material-related problems and implement solutions.
  4. Write test protocols, perform evaluations, and prepare technical assessment reports.
  5. Develop technical specifications and represent Final Product Technologies as needed.
  6. Handle technology transfer activities for packaging components and equipment.
  7. Prioritize projects to meet deadlines and report status updates.
  8. Present new packaging ideas and concepts to the development team.
  9. Ensure compliance with cGMP and regulatory requirements, including change control procedures.
  10. Participate in pre-approval inspections and interact with regulatory bodies.
  11. Collaborate with cross-functional teams across research, QA/QC, supply chain, maintenance, manufacturing, and regulatory.
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications
  • Doctorate in Packaging Engineering, Materials Science, Mechanical, Chemical Engineering, or related field.
  • Or Master’s + 2 years of experience.
  • Or Bachelor’s + 4 years of experience.
  • Or Associate’s + 8 years of experience.
  • Or High school diploma/GED + 10 years of experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in related fields.
  • 7+ years of packaging engineering experience, with 4+ in pharma/bio industries.
