Job summary

We seek an experienced Commercial P&C Underwriter to manage large renewal books and generate new business, applying pricing, terms, and risk controls for admitted and surplus lines.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of Commercial P&C underwriting experience
• Desirable CPCU, CIC or similar designations with willingness to pursue further credentials
• Strong communication with internal and external contacts
• Excellent organizational and time management skills
• Attention to detail and ability to multitask

Responsibilities

• Manage renewal book approximately $7M-$8M and generate $1.5M in new business annually
• Analyze information on new and renewal business to accept, price, modify, or reject within authority for Admitted and Surplus Lines
• Review market conditions to determine coverage decisions and adjustments
• Apply forms, endorsements, and deductibles to mitigate risk
• Prepare written reports and lead meetings detailing coverage decisions
• Develop relationships with wholesalers and agents and provide underwriting guidance
• Identify opportunities to grow portfolio with wholesalers and customers
• Collaborate with underwriters, marketing, claims, operations, and management on rate and pricing strategies
• Identify growth opportunities within existing and new sources of business
• Maintain profitable book within assigned authority using sound underwriting judgment
• Continue skills development to meet company goals
• Maintain knowledge of market trends, regulatory issues, and product innovations
• Interact professionally with colleagues, agents, and customers
