Job summary

Selective Insurance, a leading U.S. domestic property and casualty insurer, seeks an experienced underwriter for personal lines.

You will quote, accept, modify, and renew risks within authority, collaborating with agents and internal teams to grow a profitable book of business. Responsibilities include analyzing agency performance, guiding decisions, and ensuring pricing accuracy while adhering to underwriting standards.

Qualifications

• Superior financial and analytical skills.
• Strong interpersonal, organizational, and time management skills.
• Strong PC skills including strong excel skills.

Responsibilities

• Quote, accept, decline, modify, and renew risks within authority level.
• Work with agents, PLMS, and other departments to grow and maintain a profitable book.
• Analyze agency profitability and recommend improvements, including APIP.
• Provide guidance on underwriting information and communicate decisions.
• Review agency submissions for risk characteristics and monitor trends.
• Handle inquiries from agents and customers and adjust policy information as needed.
• Apply knowledge of coverage forms, rating plans, and underwriting guidelines.
• Suggest efficiencies in workflow and reporting for agency management.
• Participate in agency visits to support Personal Lines Marketing Specialists.
• Maintain effective service and communication with agents.
• Attend meetings and provide input on rate changes and training for new hires.
