Job summary

Cortex Consultants LLC is seeking an experienced medical coder to accurately assign ICD-10-CM, E/M, ICD-10-PCS, CPT, and HCPCS codes based on clinical documentation. The role covers multi-specialty encounters across outpatient and inpatient settings, with strict SLA adherence and routine audits.

Candidate must hold AHIMA or AAPC certification (CCS/CCS-P/CPC/RHIA/RHIT) and ICD-10 certification, with 3+ years of coding experience and a current DoD security clearance.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or higher
• Active coding certification credentials from AHIMA or AAPC such as CCS, CCS-P, CPC, RHIA, RHIT; ICD-10 certified
• 3+ years of medical coding experience including re-coding, abstraction, analysis and data assembly
• Must maintain minimum 97% accuracy rating
• Security clearance (DOD) required, must not have unfavorable termination
• Current training and certification requirements up to date
• Experience with Windows and Office 365 tools (Word, Excel, Teams)
• Experience with multiple specialties including Behavioral Health, Cardiology, ER, Endocrinology, Gastroenterology, Hematology/Oncology, Infectious disease, Internal medicine, Nephrology, Neurology, OB/Gyn surgery, Ophthalmology, Orthopedic, Orthopedic surgery, Outpatient, Pulmonology, Rheumatology, Sleep medicine, Transplant surgery, or Vascular surgery

Responsibilities

• Accurately assign diagnoses and procedures to documents per coding guidelines
• Adhere to multi-specialty coding standards across outpatient, ER, surgery, inpatient facilities and professional rounds
• Process encounters within SLA; escalate deficiencies as needed
• Review audits and provide corrective actions after adjudication
• Complete required government system training including annual and short-notice trainings
• Meet or exceed weekly productivity and quality targets
• Coordinate with team and follow directions from Site/Project Manager
