Job summary

BNY in Boston, MA is seeking a Senior Oracle Database Administrator to join its Data & Analytics Solutions Database Operations team. The role supports hundreds of Oracle environments, focusing on performance, reliability, and automation.

This hybrid position requires 3 days onsite weekly with 9:00AM-5:00PM ET hours, on-call rotation after hours, and occasional shifts. Candidates will have strong Oracle, Linux, SQL/PLSQL skills and a passion for automation.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of Oracle Database Administration experience with RDBMS/ASM.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field.
• Strong troubleshooting and root-cause analysis in complex database environments.
• Strong SQL and PL/SQL development for diagnostics and performance.
• Linux operating systems and system administration fundamentals.
• Experience developing Shell scripts and automation solutions.
• Ability to work independently and manage operational support responsibilities.
• Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration.
• Willingness for rotating on-call and after-hours support.

Responsibilities

• Administer, monitor, and support Oracle databases including RAC/ASM.
• Monitor environments with OEM to ensure availability and performance.
• Performance tuning via execution plans, indexing, partitioning, and diagnostics.
• Patch, upgrade, migrate, clone, backup, and recover databases.
• Develop automation using Shell, Python, SQL, and PL/SQL.
• Respond to incidents and provide timely resolution and communication.
• Configure GoldenGate for data replication across environments.
• Assist with cloud migrations to Azure, OCI, or AWS.
• Establish and enforce database standards, naming, backup strategies.
• Collaborate with application & infrastructure teams to meet objectives.

Job Summary:

We are seeking an Senior Oracle Database Administrator to join BNY's Data & Analytics Solutions (D&A) Database Operations team. This role is responsible for supporting and administering hundreds of Oracle database environments while ensuring performance, availability, reliability, and operational excellence across critical client platforms. The ideal candidate will bring strong Oracle database administration experience, Linux expertise, troubleshooting skills, and a passion for automation, performance tuning, and continuous improvement.

This role is based in Boston, MA and follows a hybrid schedule with 3 days onsite per week. Standard working hours are Monday through Friday, 9:00AM-5:00PM ET with an on-call rotation requiring after hours P1 support and weekend P1 support/change management. There may be occasional Monday-Friday 1:00PM-9:00PM ET shifts when DBAs covering that shift are unavailable.

Key Responsibilities:

• Oracle Database Administration: Administer, monitor, and support Oracle database environments including Oracle RDBMS, ASM, RAC, and related infrastructure components
• Database Monitoring & Support: Monitor database environments using Oracle Enterprise Manager and other tools to ensure system availability, stability, and performance
• Performance Tuning: Analyze and troubleshoot SQL, database, and system performance issues through query optimization, execution plan analysis, indexing strategies, partitioning, and performance diagnostics
• Database Maintenance: Perform database patching, upgrades, migrations, cloning, backup, and recovery activities across Oracle database environments
• Automation & Scripting: Develop and maintain automation solutions utilizing Shell, Python, SQL, and PL/SQL scripting to improve operational efficiency and reduce manual effort
• Issue Resolution: Respond to client requests, production incidents, database issues, and operational support inquiries while providing timely resolution and communication
• Data Replication & Integration: Configure and maintain Oracle GoldenGate services and support data replication requirements across client environments
• Cloud & Infrastructure Support: Assist with database architecture, planning, and migration initiatives involving Azure, Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI), AWS, or similar cloud platforms
• Standards & Governance: Establish and maintain database administration standards, naming conventions, patching procedures, backup strategies, and operational best practices
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with application teams, infrastructure teams, and client-facing support organizations to resolve issues and support business objectives

Qualifications:

• 5+ years of Oracle Database Administration experience supporting Oracle RDBMS and ASM environments
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related discipline
• Strong troubleshooting and root-cause analysis skills within complex database environments
• Strong SQL and PL/SQL development skills for troubleshooting, diagnostics, and performance analysis
• Experience with SQL performance tuning including execution plans, SQL traces, indexing strategies, partitioning, and optimization techniques
• Strong working knowledge of Linux operating systems and system administration fundamentals
• Experience developing Shell scripts and automation solutions
• Ability to work independently and effectively manage operational support responsibilities
• Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate across technical and business teams
• Flexibility to support rotating on-call schedules and after-hours production support activities
