Job summary

Leonardo DRS in San Diego is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer specializing in Thermal & Structural Analysis. You will perform advanced simulations to predict structural and thermal behavior in electro-optical and laser systems, and lead STOP analyses for opto‑mechanical assemblies.

You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, mentor junior engineers, and contribute to reusable analysis workflows across aerospace and defense projects.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering; 5+ years experience preferred.
• Strong background in structural, thermal, and dynamic analyses.
• Experience with MIL-STD-810 environmental qualification and STOP analysis.

Responsibilities

• Perform advanced FEA: static, dynamic, modal, random vibration, transient thermal analyses.
• Define loads, boundaries, meshing, and material properties for high-fidelity models.
• Execute coupled loads analyses for thermo-structural interactions.
• Correlate simulations with experimental data to validate designs.
• Support STOP analysis for optical/electro-optical assemblies.
• Assist environmental testing: vibration, shock, thermal testing.
