Leonardo DRS in San Diego, CA is seeking a Senior Technical Intern - Optical to contribute to laser and optical integration efforts. You will work with a multidisciplinary engineering team on projects from concept to prototype, guided by experienced engineers.

Ideal candidates are optical/physics engineering students with strong interpersonal skills, diligence, and a quick learning ability. The role supports hands-on design, testing, and data gathering in a collaborative environment.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED is required.
• Optical or Physics Engineering student; progress toward Optical or Physics Engineering degree.
• Must have good interpersonal skills and the ability to build a network.
• Diligent, hardworking and quick to learn.

Responsibilities

• Serve as a laser and optical integration engineer for laser systems from concept to prototype.
• Hands-on optical instrumentation and metrology.
• Design, build and test novel laser cavities and laser-based systems.
• Develop alignment procedures and automate alignment with robotic scripts.
• Use Zemax to design and tolerance laser and optical systems.
• Assist engineers and conduct limited scope testing under supervision.
• Gather data and assist in research fields as needed.
• Carry out design calculations and support engineers with details.
