Job summary

Xcimer Energy in Denver, CO is hiring for a hands‑on Mechanical Engineer to design, build, and test opto‑mechanical hardware for deep‑UV laser systems. You will develop mounts, benches, and assemblies, run analyses, and create detailed drawings, with opportunities to lead subsystems and mentor teammates.

The role spans requirements to testing, requiring both solid design skills and practical lab experience in a fast‑paced environment.

Qualifications

• BS in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• 4+ years of professional mechanical design experience with hardware designed and used.
• Solid fundamentals: statics, strength of materials, stiffness, and thermal expansion.
• Proficiency in 3D CAD (NX preferred; SolidWorks or Creo acceptable) and GD&T drawings per ASME Y14.5.
• Ability to build tolerance stack‑ups and verify designs with hand calculations.
• Familiarity with machining, sheet metal, welding, and design for manufacturability and assembly.
• Hands‑on aptitude to assemble, measure, and test hardware in lab.
• Experience designing precision opto‑mechanical hardware: mounts, benches, or alignment mechanisms.
• Strong FEA skills (static, modal, thermal) and using analyses to drive design decisions.
• Experience creating and maintaining interface control documents.
• Experience sourcing hardware and mentoring other engineers.
• Strong written and verbal communication in a fast paced, multidisciplinary team.

Responsibilities

• Design mirror mounts, window and lens mounts, opto‑mechanical assemblies, optical benches, and supports.
• Develop requirements with optical, controls, and systems engineers; run trade studies.
• Analyze designs with hand calculations and FEA to assess stresses and misalignment.
• Produce NX models and GD&T drawings; manage them through engineering change.
• Specify materials, finishes, and purchased components; work with suppliers and inspect hardware.
• Build tolerance stack‑ups and link tolerances to optical budgets.
• Create interface control documents between optical mounts and mechanical structures.
• Assemble, align, and test opto‑mechanical hardware in lab and cleanroom; execute test plans.
• Support integration and troubleshoot on the laser system floor and feed lessons back to design.
• Present work at design reviews with clear technical documentation.
• At senior level: lead end‑to‑end subsystem design and mentor junior engineers.
