KLA in Milpitas, CA is seeking an optical engineer to advance BBP wafer inspection products. You will own optical architecture and guide trade-offs between performance, cost and schedule.

The role requires hands-on lens design, experience with Zemax or Code V, MATLAB or Python, and collaboration with suppliers and internal teams. Doctorate or masters with many years preferred; strong communication and problem-solving.

Qualifications

• Strong background in optics, physics or related field with imaging knowledge.
• Experience in optical design, metrology and alignment concepts.
• Expert user of optical design software (Code V or Zemax).
• Proficient with MATLAB or Python for data analysis and scripting.
• Ability to lead trade-offs between performance, cost and schedule.

Responsibilities

• Own the optical architecture and evaluate design options to meet BBP roadmap.
• Collaborate with external suppliers and internal teams on optical performance dependencies.
• Translate system requirements into optical, mechanical and metrology specs.
• Develop optical metrology and alignment concepts to achieve targeted performance.
• Follow design reviews, procurement, testing, integration and release processes.
• Address issues in proto or released inspection systems with rigorous problem-solving.
