Avo Photonics (www.avophotonics.com) is a dynamic contract engineering services company that designs, develops and manufactures custom opto-electronic products for a large customer base. Members of our staff have the opportunity to design, prototype and produce next generation products for a diverse range of markets including environmental, medical, military, industrial, aerospace, and communications.

We seek a diligent, dedicated and meticulous person who will help to further our success and reputation in the industry through world-class customer service. The successful candidate must plan his/her own work schedule, keep multiple records, be self-motivated, maintain a professional presence, and have the desire to take ownership of projects.

Specifically:

• Critically review customer’s design requirements and ensure that the information provided enables the development of the optical system.
• Develop an optical design that meets or exceeds customer requirements and results in a cost-effective, manufacturable, and high process yield products.
• Define alignment metrics and collaborate with Mechanical Engineer, Product System Engineer, and Process Engineers to ensure the product efficiently utilizes Avo’s manufacturing capabilities.
• Prepare technical presentations and participate in internal and external design reviews. Explain and defend design decisions made.
• Ensure assigned work remains within the budgeted hours and schedule.
• Provide feedback on selected cost proposal developments as needed.
• Provide mentorship to other Optical Engineers in deriving optical product design.

Requirements:

• Master’s degree or higher in Engineering, Physics or related technical field
• 10 years of professional work experience in the photonics industry; expert in using Optical Design Software such as Zemax, ASAP, Fred, GLAD
• In-Depth knowledge of optical properties of materials used in product designs
• Demonstrated ability to perform optical system design
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Attributes: High attention to detail, personable, motivated, willing to take initiative, and strong observation skills
