The Senior Operations Manager - Rooms at the Newark Downtown Courtyard assists the General Manager to ensure guest satisfaction, efficient operation of the hotel and focusing on achieving hotel profitability.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Comply and ensure adherence to MCR standards and regulations to encourage safe and efficient hotel operations.
  • Ensure the efficient operation of the hotel in the absence of the General Manager by supervising and supporting the Guest Services, Food & Beverage, Food Production, Engineering, Accounting, Sales, and housekeeping departments. Communicate and/or correct deficiencies in these departments in conjunction with the supervisor on duty.
  • Assist the General Manager in the development of managerial and hourly employees through the implementation of Corporate and Brand training programs.
  • Ensure all levels of service are maintained in accordance with directives given by regional leadership.
  • Participate in required Manager on Duty coverage as scheduled.
  • Approach all encounters with guests and employees in an attentive, friendly, courteous, and service oriented manner.
  • Comply and ensure adherence to MCR and Brand standards and regulations to encourage safe and efficient hotel operations.
  • Assist the General Manager with the creation of financial reports as required by MCR. Meet all Corporate imposed deadlines as well as those imposed by the General Manager.
  • Ensure that training in service standards is taking place in each department using the steps to effective training.
  • Be in the public areas during peak times, greeting guests and helping as needed.
  • Approach all encounters with guests and employees in an attentive, friendly, courteous, and service oriented manner.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must have a positive attitude and willingness to learn.
  • Must be able to evaluate and select among alternative courses of action quickly and accurately.
  • Must work well in stressful, high-pressure situations.
  • Must be effective in handling problems in the workplace, including anticipating, preventing, identifying, and solving problems as necessary.
  • Must be effective at listening to, understanding, clarifying, and resolving the concerns and issues raised by co-workers and guests.
  • Must be able to work with and understand financial information and data, and basic arithmetic functions.
  • Must be proficient in Windows operating systems, company approved spreadsheets and word processing.
  • Must have a high school diploma or GED.
  • Must be able to convey information and ideas clearly.
  • Must have a desire to serve all guests.
  • Must meet the legal age to serve alcoholic beverages (at select properties).

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Previous supervisory experience preferred.
  • Progressive experience in the hotel industry, including Rooms and Food & Beverage departments.
