Job summary

Peraton is seeking a Senior Platform Engineer to deploy and operate a bare-metal OpenShift container platform. You will lead IaC provisioning using Terraform and Ansible, evaluate OpenShift against Spectro Cloud, and guide the transition from manual installs to fully automated deployments.

The role requires extensive Kubernetes experience, DoD clearance, Linux (RHEL) expertise, and the ability to work at/near multiple DoD sites with occasional telework within 50 miles of Fort Meade.

Qualifications

• 12+ years of general work experience with BS/BA; 10 years with MS/MA; 7 years with Ph.D.
• 5+ years of platform/systems engineering with hands-on Kubernetes-based container platform experience.
• US Citizenship and Active DoD Secret clearance required.
• DoD 8570/8140 compliant certification.
• Hands-on OpenShift on bare metal.
• IaC experience with Terraform and Ansible.
• Experience with virtualization/cloud orchestration (Spectro Cloud, VMware).
• Knowledge of container platform architecture, networking, storage, and security.
• Regular access to a DISA SIPR-accredited facility.

Responsibilities

• Install, configure, and operate bare-metal OpenShift or equivalent Kubernetes clusters.
• Design IaC provisioning using Terraform and Ansible for platform/VM orchestration.
• Support feasibility assessments of OpenShift vs Spectro Cloud and document licensing tradeoffs.
• Manage OpenShift cluster lifecycle: installation, upgrades, patching, scaling, day-2 ops.
• Deploy and support core platform services including DNS (PowerDNS).
• Implement STIGs and cybersecurity requirements on platform infrastructure.
• Monitor platform health, performance, capacity, and logging with observability tools.
• Support OCONUS hardware bootstrap activities and documentation of architecture.
• Transition provisioning to a fully IaC-managed model.
