Job summary

Peraton is seeking a Platform Engineer to stand up and operate a bare-metal OpenShift container platform. You will evaluate OpenShift versus Spectro Cloud, drive IaC provisioning with Terraform and Ansible, and reduce manual installs over time while supporting core platform services.

You will work in a primarily on-site role with telework flexibility and must hold US citizenship and a DoD Secret clearance. The position requires extensive Linux experience and DoD-compliant certifications.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 8 years with BS/BA; Minimum of 6 years with MS/MA
• 5+ years of platform/systems engineering experience with hands-on Kubernetes-based container platform experience
• US Citizenship required
• Active DoD Secret clearance required
• DoD 8570/8140 compliant certification
• Hands-on experience deploying and administering OpenShift on bare metal
• IaC proficiency with Terraform and Ansible
• Experience with virtualization/cloud orchestration platforms (Spectro Cloud, VMware)
• Understanding of container platform architecture: networking, storage, security, and lifecycle management
• Regular/recurring physical access to a DISA SIPR-accredited facility

Responsibilities

• Stand up and operate a bare-metal OpenShift container platform
• Evaluate OpenShift vs Spectro Cloud and drive IaC provisioning with Terraform and Ansible
• Reduce manual installs and move toward fully IaC-managed provisioning
• Support core platform services and OCONUS bootstrap activities
• Install, configure, and operate OpenShift/bare-metal clusters
• Design and implement IaC provisioning for platform and VM orchestration
• Document architecture, licensing tradeoffs, and operational procedures
• Monitor platform health and capacity with observability tools
• Manage OpenShift lifecycle including upgrades, patching, scaling, and day-2 operations
