Job summary

Our client, a leading mining group, seeks a Senior Mining Engineer to manage open pit operations in Upington, Northern Cape. You will lead planning, drill and blast, fleet management, and supervision, driving safety, efficiency, and sustainable production.

The role requires a degree in Mining Engineering (Master’s advantageous), Pr. Eng./PCE registration, and 10+ years in open pit mining with 5+ in leadership. Proficiency in AutoCAD, Deswik and MineSight is essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor in Mining Engineering or related field; Master’s degree advantageous.
• Professional Engineer (Pr. Eng.) or Professional Certificated Engineer (PCE) registration with SAIMM or ECSA.
• Minimum of 10 years in open pit mining, with 5+ years in supervision/management.
• Proven experience in mine planning, scheduling, and execution for open pit environments.
• Strong knowledge of drill and blast, fleet management, and geotechnical principles.

Responsibilities

• Develop short-term and long-term mine plans for open pit operations.
• Oversee drill and blast operations to optimize fragmentation and safety.
• Manage mining fleet, including allocation, maintenance coordination, and productivity.
• Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations.
• Supervise mining personnel, providing technical guidance and performance management.
• Conduct geotechnical assessments and slope stability analyses for mine design.
• Utilize mine design software (AutoCAD, Deswik, MineSight) effectively.
• Monitor costs and implement efficiency improvements and cost reductions.
• Coordinate with geological, metallurgical, and maintenance departments for integrated operations.
• Contribute to feasibility studies and capital investment proposals.
• Promote a strong safety culture in all mining activities.
