Placements24 is seeking a Mine Operations Superintendent for its client in Upington, ZA. This role leads all mining activities, with responsibility for safety, productivity, and cost control across open-pit and potentially underground operations.

The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering, 10+ years in mine operations, and a proven supervisory track record. Strong leadership, budgeting, and regulatory compliance are essential. A valid driver’s license is required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering or related discipline.
• 10+ years in mine operations with at least 5 years in a supervisory or management role.
• Extensive experience in open-pit and/or underground mining operations.
• Strong knowledge of mining methods, equipment, safety procedures, and relevant legislation.
• Valid driver's license.

Responsibilities

• Oversee and manage all daily mining operations, including drilling, blasting, loading, hauling, and ground support.
• Develop, implement, and monitor operational plans to achieve production targets safely and efficiently.
• Ensure strict adherence to health, safety, and environmental regulations and policies.
• Manage and mentor a team of mining supervisors, foremen, and operational staff.
• Control operational costs and identify opportunities for efficiency improvements and cost reduction.
• Collaborate with mine planning, engineering, and maintenance departments to ensure seamless operations.
• Conduct regular site inspections and safety audits.
• Participate in incident investigations and implement corrective actions.
• Report on operational performance, including production volumes, costs, and safety metrics.
